Spotty the Leapard
Spotty is a male leopard. He was confiscated from a Palm Beach dealer next to a construction site where people were poking him with sticks and broom handles to provoke him. On first arriving here, he would not come out of his shelter to eat until everyone had left.
Nikky is a female leopard. She came from an alligator wrestling tourist attraction in Alligator Alley. They used to show her off at children's parties. She was kept in a 3ft x 3ft cage in a swampy and muddy ground. The USDA forced the owner to surrender Nikky to SFWRC.

Alex the Lion
Alex was picked up in Berea, Kentucky. Dirk saved him from being euthanized. Alex did not have a cage which would fit into the van, so Dirk picked him up in a Dodge extended cab. Alex walked straight in and then licked Dirk on the neck.
Sam Sam is a male cougar. While working as an animal control officer, Dirk found him in a horse barn with no food or water in a tack room with no windows. He was living on urine and dog food and sitting on six months of feces. The property owner claimed that Sam Sam was not his and that he was not responsible for his condition. As a result of his previous conditions, Sam Sam was afraid of sunlight for a long time.
Spudnik is a male panther. He was in very bad shape on arrival at SFWRC and does not trust people. His previous owner had used him to fight 3 pitbulls at a time. He had 14 bite wounds when Dirk picked him up. We put Elsie with him in a cage to help to socialize him - both cats were supposedly "fixed", but three kittens resulted: Indy, Miri, and April.
